Can Robot Vacuums Avoid Pet Waste?

Some models are designed to recognize and avoid pet waste, but no obstacle system should be treated as a guarantee. Object size, lighting, viewing angle, floor color, sensor cleanliness and changing software can all affect detection.

If there is a meaningful chance of an accident, keep the robot docked or exclude the area until the floor has been checked. A missed accident can spread contamination through wheels, rollers, brushes, the dust path and multiple rooms.

Visual avoidance may involve indoor imagery

Check whether images are processed only on the robot or sent to cloud services, whether obstacle photos are saved, who can view them and how they are deleted. A camera-free robot can reduce imaging concerns, but may not offer the same visual classification.

If an accident is contacted

  1. Stop the robot immediately and keep pets and people away.
  2. Power down and unplug equipment as the manual directs.
  3. Use gloves and follow appropriate hygiene precautions.
  4. Do not place a contaminated robot on its dock.
  5. Consult the manufacturer before applying liquids or disinfectants.
  6. Replace parts that cannot be safely cleaned as instructed.
  7. Clean affected flooring using floor-appropriate methods.
  8. Contact support if contamination entered motors, electronics, ducts or a dock.
